As we approach the busy holiday season, the Poway Chamber of Commerce and the City of Poway are launching a campaign to especially encourage residents and non-residents alike to shop locally – right here in Poway!

The initial phase of the “Poway Your First Choice” campaign is to educate shoppers and diners that there is lasting and measurable value to spending your holiday dollars in town – and that doing so has importance for all of us!

When we purchase goods, professional services, and meals in Poway, a portion of our sales tax dollars go to help fund essential City services that we all utilize each and every day – such as:

• Fire protection
• Law enforcement
• Emergency medical response
• Parks and recreation
• Library

In fact, sales tax revenue accounts for 34.5% of the City’s general fund!

But remember, that only happens when you choose to spend money within the City limits. When we knowingly or unknowingly leave town to shop, that sales tax revenue goes to some other community, or, who knows where!

So the answer is simple … whenever possible, just make Poway Your First Choice!
